Be a lamp to yourself. Be your own confidence. Hold on to the truth within yourself as to the only truth.

Mindfulness: what is it and how can I benefit from it?

Mindfulness.  It’s a pretty straightforward word.  It suggests that the mind is fully attending to what’s happening; to what you are doing; to the space you are moving through.  This might seem a bit trivial, except for the fact that we often get distracted from the matter at hand.  Our mind wanders, we lose touch with our body and pretty soon we are engrossed with something that just happened or worrying about a future predicament.

If you really want to know what mindfulness is; it is best to try being mindful for a little while.  Since it is pretty difficult to pinpoint what it truly means, you will likely find slight variations of what mindful behavior really means.  Here is an all-purpose definition that conveys mindfulness as a quality that every human possesses.

Mindfulness is the basic human ability to be fully present; aware of where we are and what we are doing, and not overly reactive or overwhelmed by what is going on around us.

Mindfulness can be cultivated through many different techniques with relation to the body’s position; seated, walking, standing and moving meditation.  Short pauses we insert into our daily life can be very beneficial to our digestion and how our body, mind and soul deal with stressful situations.

When we meditate it doesn’t help to fixate on the benefits, just remain “in the moment.”  Mindful meditation give us a time in our lives when we can suspend judgement and unleash our natural curiosity about the mind.  Mindfulness helps us reduce stress, enhance performance, gain insight and awareness through observing our own mind and striving for mental and focus-based well-being.

Throughout my health empowerment coaching sessions, mindfulness and mental fitness is of high priority to many of my clients.  The majority of my clients are striving for more insight, mental focus and powerful thinking to get them to the next level in their lives.  Mindfulness is one of the key players to unleashing your POWER and overcoming obstacles to live up to your highest potential.
